I was interviewed for a podcast last week and I was giving an overview of my journey in the fitness industry. It struck me halfway through that a lot has happened in the last 8 years. In fact, more than I ever could’ve imagined.
We often don’t stop and reflect because we are so busy ‘doing’ the next project or working on the next goal. However, reflection is paramount and you should acknowledge the growth, success and lessons you have experienced. The other benefit of reflection is that it showcases what you are capable of.
In 2008, I opened a tiny 35 sqm personal training studio with my limited savings. I had no grandiose plans or visions. I just wanted a little facility where I could train people. I thought that was the end game. 2 years later I took over the shop next door and the 12 months later I took the next shop over. I then successfully sold that studio and have now opened a brand new 335 sqm functional training playground in a building I bought.
I never would’ve thought that was possible. I had very little self-belief in my own potential and limited it to one small space.
In 2009, Tarek and I wrote our first Kettlebell course. We named the company ‘Sydney Kettlebells’ and planned to deliver small workshops in Sydney. The next year we went national and two years later International. We now have 12 accredited course being delivered in 14 countries. Once again, we initially sold ourselves short.
In both cases I adapted as time transpired but we could have achieved the results much faster if I had greater self-belief. The infrastructure would have been better established and we would be 2-3 years ahead of where we currently are.
These stories are not meant to impress you but rather impress upon you that we really are much more capable than what we believe. We are conditioned to be conservative, underestimate our capacity and limit our dreams.
What do you want to achieve in the next 3, 5 and 10 years?
Remove the hand break and really dream…. Put it out there and don’t let anyone tell you it’s not possible. The size of your success will largely be determined by the size of your belief.
It all starts with your belief. A strong belief will trigger creativity and your mind will find solutions to make your dreams a reality.
Remember, you are amazing and truly capable of doing outstanding things in this world.
